Hello my Blueberries Muffins,
How are you doing? I don’t know about the weather where you live, but it’s been darn and fickle here in Belgium. Mostly, it was cold, sometimes freezing and often rainy and moist… And now, the sun is starting to come through. So I wonder, how is your skin doing?
I’ve always been pretty happy with my skin. I have normal to slightly dry skin, I occasionally have breakouts and some open pores but other than that, I thought it looked pretty okay. A couple of years ago, I went to Singapore and I spent soooo much money at the flagship store of Etude House, that they not only gave all the gifts they had, several bags, but also a make over. I remember back then that they gave me a base cushion compact that was supposed to help dull skin become radiant. I then thought it was odd, because I didn’t think I had dull skin, didn’t even understand what it meant.
Now several years later, I finally understand what radiant skin actually means: it’s a certain healthy shade, a certain glow, a healthy blush, younger looking skin,… I can’t tell you what your skin needs, but I can show you how I get mine radiant!
It’s a long post! So grab yourself a tea and a healthy snack (the hypocrite in me is now grabbing a chocolate bar, but don’t mind me…)! Btw, most of the products mentioned are featured in my recent favorites post.
Step 1 – Remove Make up – Banilo Co Clean It Zero
Removing make up with the Banila Co Clean it Zero is so effortless… I scoop out a pea size amount with the spatula, place a couple of dots on my face and then start massaging my skin. It feels so clean and moisturizing after I rinse it off. I’ve almost finished the pot. I think I’m really going to be sad…
Step 2 – Cleansing – Laneige Fresh Calming Gel Cleanser
If you’ve followed me since the beginning, you’ll know that I’m a firm believer of double skin cleansing. In the first step the make up was removed, but in my opinion, your skin isn’t clean until you’ve actually washed it with a gel cleanser. The Laneige Fresh Calming Gel Cleanser has recently become a favorite in a very short time, because I immediately saw the results. My skin tone became very even and there’s less redness. After rinsing it off, it leaves the skin clean and soft. There’s no itchy or dry feeling afterwards.
Step 3 – Toner – Laneige Fresh Calming Balancing Toner
A step that is easily disregarded, but very important nonetheless. I used to think this step was useless and a waste of money. But each time that I added a good toner to my skincare routine, I saw the difference. It usually comes slowly, so you won’t notice it immediately. Now what does it exactly do? It’s an extra cleansing step and it’s also the first form of moist that touches your skin after the cleansing. Your skin litereally drinks it up. I find that the Laneige Fresh Calming Balancing Toner reduces the visibility of my pores. It also makes my skin very clear.
Not every toner will do this for you. Because before this, I was using another one and that didn’t do much for my skin.
Step 4 – Serum – L’Occitane de Provence IMMORTELLE RESET Night Oil-in-serum
Serums never did much for me. That is, until I discovered this product below… A serum is supposed to be very concentrated with a certain active substance. It will also help your skin absorb better the cream you’ll use afterwards. I’ve used high end serums and serums from Etude House before and never saw any results. It might not have been what my skin needed at that time. Each serum is quite different. The one from L’Occitane de Provence, Immortelle Oil-in-Serum, will reset your skin over night, which means it repairs the damage. My friends, I’m not sponsored to say this, nor have I received this product, but… it works! I woke up the next morning and noticed that I looked younger. I’m not old at all (32 to be), but I saw someone, I knew so well, in the mirror that I hadn’t seen in quite a while… You need to try it for yourself…
Step 5 – Moisturizer – Etude House Red Energy Emulsion
This moisturizer is a thick consistency. Normally there’s a cream in this line, but I find that the emulsion is already very moisturizing, so the cream would be too much for me. I’ll be reviewing this line separately. All in all this cream is okay. It’s a good product for in the winter.
All the steps in my skincare routine are basically the same, except for the make up removing part:
- Cleansing – Laneige Fresh Calming Gel Cleanser
- Toner – Laneige Fresh Calming Balancing Toner
- Moisturizer – Etude House Red Energy Emulsion
Step 3 – Serum – Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum (Complexion Correcting)
Only the serum I use is different. During daytime it’s obvious that I don’t need a serum that helps recovering. So here I’m using a serum that helps the skin become more radiant! And btw, yes I have tiny eyes in the morning :p.
Extra Pamper Days
Scrub – Neogen Gauze Peeling Wine
As it has been featured in my favorites recently, it won’t surprise you that this product is in this list. Scrubbing comes after step 2 (the cleansing). This product requires you to rinse off your skin afterwards.
I like to scrub my skin 2 times per week. The one important thing to note is that scrubbing your skin is only needed on the center of your face. I never go out on the edges as I don’t want to thin out my skin. I love how soft this scrub is! You may expect a review very soon.
Sheetmask – Lululun Premium Peach Sheetmasks
I always use sheetmasks after the cleansing or the scrub. Usually my skin is so full of nutrients that I don’t add any serum or moisturizer afterwards. I find that that that would be overkill for my skin. When I use this in the morning, the Lululun Premium Peach Sheetmasks, makes my make up look beautiful. You are supposed to use this daily. So I will soon test it out for 7 days. I also have a gold pack for 31 days. I will soon commit to that :D, looking forward to it!
Except for a good eye cream, I’d say my skincare is pretty complete. Many would say that my skincare routine is extensive! And some would argue that it could be more extensive (ever heard about the korean 7 step toning routine?!). I tried the minimum and I’ve done the extensive routine. For me, it has made a big difference: less redness, more clear skin, less blackheads, less breakouts, softer & smoother skin, radiant complexion, younger looking skin,… I hear you saying: yeah but you’re young. True, but no matter the age, your skin could look at its best or at its worst. And if you’ve never done much, you’ve never seen it at its best. Skincare can cost a lot of money. However not all expensive things are the best and not all the cheap things are crap. I’ve come to this routine through trial and error, which I don’t mind at all. But you could always ask for professional advice if that’s something you prefer. Skin grows with us, so your routine will have to be adapted at certain points.
The difficult thing about skincare is that you need to find out what it is that your skin specifically requires. Last year, I thought “Okay, now that I’m 31, it’s about time that I start using anti-ageing products”. I bought a set, used it for several months and just had to conclude that it didn’t do much… And it’s not because the products aren’t performant, but it’s because it wasn’t what my skin needed at that time.
My point is… you need to find EXACTLY what your skin needs. Everybody is different and there is no age that’ll define what you need. Because it also depends on your life style, your genes, what you eat, the climate, what you do, hobbies (running a lot outside, snowboarding,..) and so on… And once you’ve seen how radiant and beautiful your skin can be, then only you’ll realize how much your skin was missing. And let me tell you, you will never be able to miss that radiance again, once you’ve seen how beautiful your skin can actually be. With a good skincare routine, some consistency and self knowledge, you’ll be able to look younger within 1 month or even already after 1 week.
Soooo, I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post, as much as I enjoyed writing it! Have a great Sunday, loves! Talk to you soon!
